Just like with other UK visas, you will need to pay the required fee to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. Here we will detail the costs of an ILR application and what additional fees you may have to consider.
How much does ILR cost?
Application fees will depend on whether you are eligible to apply straight away or if you first need to apply to extend your stay.
ILR application fees cost £2,404 per person. This means that if you have dependants, you will need to pay the fee for each of them.
If you wish to extend your stay in order to qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain, you may have the option to do so with certain Visa categories where you have not exceeded the limit for the maximum period allowed. For example, an extension for Further Leave to Remain as a Partner or Parent currently costs £1,048 per applicant plus the Immigration Health Surcharge. Different fees apply to other Visa categories depending on the length of extension requested.
Additional fees to consider
As well as the standard application fee, you may have to consider additional costs, such as biometrics enrolment which is £19.20.
If any of your supporting documents are in a language other than English, you may have to provide certified translations, which will come at a cost. Most providers should be able to give you a quote depending on the language translated from and the number or complexity of documents.
Many individuals also find it helpful to hire immigration lawyers to help them put their ILR application together. While this is an additional cost to consider, it often helps save a considerable amount of time and increases your chances of success, thus avoiding costly appeals or administrative reviews.
Paying the premium service fee
You may expect to hear back from the Home Office within six months. If you wish to receive a decision sooner, you may apply to the Super Priority Service for an additional fee of £800 or Priority Service for an additional fee of £500 where available. With the Super Priority Service, you will normally receive a decision either by the end of the new working day, or two working days if your biometric appointment is on the weekend. With the Priority Service, you will usually get a decision within 5 working days.
